Add source list in Debian

(Question)

I have installed Debian on my laptop. The performance is excellent. I now want to add source lists for software installation. Please let me know how to do that.

(Answer)

You can use the apt-setup to add source lists. This is an interactive tool that simplifies adding sources to the /etc/apt/sources.list file. It can detect all major Debian mirrors and can help you select one in your region. You can even configure it to be used behind the proxy, if you have one. To run the tool, all you need is to run the following command:

# apt-setup
and follow the on-screen instructions. At the end, it will enquire if you need to install more apt sources for your Debian system. You can select 'no' if you don't need to do so.
